£10,000 GRANT FOR SUFFOLK PLAYSCHEME (26/02/2010)

 26/02/2010

The Mid Suffolk Holiday Opportunity Playscheme for Children with Disabilities (HOPS) has recently received a grant of £10,000 from the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales through its Community Programme.

The charity based at the Kerrison Centre in Thorndon provides activities for children and young people with a physical/learning disability.  Activities take place during the school holidays and one Saturday each month.  The activities help improve communication skills and independence; and promote fun and enjoyment.  It also provides respite for carers.

The Foundation’s grant will fund an additional Saturday each month for the year that will provide additional opportunities for children with a disability to access activities that can help develop their communication skills and improve their confidence and independence so they are more able to use mainstream services

Jackie Markell the Co-ordinator of HOPS said,

“The funding from the Lloyds TSB Foundation will support an additional Saturday session each month so we are able to provide support to more families and provide a more regular service during term time.  The sessions make a real difference to the young people that use  them.”
