TWO YEAR GRANT AWARDED TO BISHOP AUCKLAND CENTRE

 24/02/2010

The Auckland Youth & Community Centre has recently received a grant of £24,000 from the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales through its Community Programme.

 The Centre based in Walker Drive in the heart of the Woodhouse Close Estate in Bishop Auckland opened in 1964 and offers a wide range of services for young people, the unemployed and disabled as well providing education and learning, advice services and fitness activities.  The Centre is also widely used by other local groups.

The two year grant from the Lloyds TSB Foundation will contribute to the costs of the Centre Manager who is vital to ensuring that the Centre can provide benefits to the whole community as well as supporting other local groups and partnerships.  Children and young people will directly benefit by having access to a range of activities that they are involved in deciding, vulnerable adults will benefit from services and activities which increase levels of social integration and through access to information, advice and guidance from both in house service and partner organisations that come into the centre.  There will also be better support for Centre staff and volunteers.

Elsie Race the Community Co-ordinator for the charity said;

 “We are delighted that the Lloyds TSB Foundation have been able to provide us with funding towards the core costs of the Centre.  Funding for the Centre Manager post will help ensure that we are able to provide for the needs of the whole community, make the most of our already well used facility and provide some stability over the next two years.“
