Devon charity, UNITE – Carers in Mid Devon, has received £20,000 funding from the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales.
UNITE provides support, information and advice for unpaid carers in the Mid Devon area. The charity operates a helpline, drop-in centre, training sessions and support groups from its base in Tiverton, while also running the "Kids Who Care" project for young carers from 5 to 17 years of age.
The charity was awarded a three-year grant which will contribute towards the salary of the Service Development Manager, as well as related management and office costs, advertising, training and travel expenses.
One of the UK’s leading grant makers, the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales funds small to medium sized local, regional and national charities working at the heart of communities to tackle disadvantage.
Philip Lloyd is a Trustee for UNITE and approached the Foundation for funding, he says: "We wanted to develop the charity’s core capacity by employing a full-time Service and Development Manager. Thanks to this funding from the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales we are a step closer to developing our services and ensuring that carers are given the full support and guidance they’re entitled to."
Trevor Smale is the region’s Grant Manager for the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales, he explains: "As a grant maker the Foundation is committed to providing core funding for salaries and other necessities to small charities, like UNITE, to ensure they can continue to deliver their vital work."
In 2009, the Foundation invested £0.69 million in charities across the region and £20.61 million nationally.
