The Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales has awarded Yorkshire charity, Project Challenge, a £40,000 grant to continue its work with young NEETs – those not in employment, education or training.
Calderdale based Project Challenge delivers intensive training programmes to young people between the ages of 16 -24, combining classroom learning with tough physical challenges. Its aim is to unlock young people's potential by developing their confidence, enabling them to achieve qualifications and an increase in self-esteem.
It has been a busy summer for Project Challenge, having won an ‘Oscar’ for their work at Voluntary Action Calderdale’s fifth Annual Volunteers Oscars in June.
As one of the UK’s leading grant makers, the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales funds small to medium sized local, regional and national charities working at the heart of communities to tackle disadvantage.
Lorna Butterick is Business Manager for Project Challenge, and approached the Foundation for funding, she says: "Working with these young people is not always easy but we never give up. We are often their last chance of survival from the descent into self-destruction. Thanks to this funding from the Lloyds TSB Foundation we can continue our work."
Pat Greenwood is the regional Grant Manager for the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales, she explains: "The Foundation is proud to fund charities that deliver lasting changes and benefits in the heart of the community to tackle disadvantage. We wish Project Challenge every success in their future."
In 2009, the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales invested £2.15 million in charities across Yorkshire and £20.61 million nationally.
