Calderdale Citizen's Advice Bureau secures £50,000 Grant

 12/01/2010

Calderdale Citizen’s Advice Bureau (CAB) is celebrating having received a grant worth £50,000 to support its work providing advice and information. The two year grant has been made by the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales through its community programme. Since 2007, 8 charities in Calderdale have received grants from the Lloyds TSB Foundation worth a total of £268,800

From its offices on Harrison Road in the centre of Halifax, satellite offices in Todmorden and Elland and through outreach services Calderdale CAB works with the whole community to provide free impartial advice and information on legal, financial and other problems.

Funding from the Lloyds TSB Foundation will support the salary of a Volunteer Co-ordinator to enable the recruitment and support of an additional 30 volunteer advisors to enable Calderdale CAB to respond to an increasing demand for its services.  They will be targeting support to communities in the Park, Ovenden and Mixenden wards and expects to be able to provide a service to an additional 1200 clients.

Calderdale CAB Chief Executive, Rory Deighton, commented on the grant, “This grant will enable us to provide a significant increase in our service to meet the growing demand we are experiencing.  We were particularly impressed that the Foundation took the time to visit us to discuss our funding needs and that we were able to explore how the Foundation could best support our work.”

Lloyds TSB Foundation for England & Wales grant manager for Yorkshire, Patricia Greenwood, added, “The Lloyds TSB Foundation is delighted to support this work that helps disadvantaged people in Calderdale to access high quality legal advice and we look forward to receiving further enquiries from charities in Calderdale”
