The four Lloyds TSB Foundations across the UK will receive £37.1 million this year from the Lloyds TSB Group following its annual results announced on Friday, 22 February 2008. The cash fund will benefit charities supporting disadvantaged people and community groups across the UK.
The independently run Lloyds TSB Foundations receive one per cent of the Lloyds TSB Group’s pre-tax profits, averaged over three years, in lieu of shareholder dividend to distribute to local charities throughout the UK. The four Foundations form one of the largest grant-making trusts in the UK and have distributed over £330 million since 1987.
The 2008 fund will be allocated as follows:
• Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales - £26.8 million
• Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland - £7.2 million
• Lloyds TSB Foundation for Northern Ireland - £2.0 million
• Lloyds TSB Foundation for the Channel Islands - £1.1 million
Speaking on behalf of the four Foundations, chief executive for the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales, Linda Kelly commented, “This is fantastic news for the small under-funded UK charities working at grassroots level. We can continue to invest in helping charities make a difference to disadvantaged groups working at the heart of the community.”
Recently the Blackhall Community Association received a £17,000 grant towards the salary of its centre manager. The Community Association has been one of the key catalysts pulling together the regeneration of the village which had become run down since the closure of the East Durham coal pits.
Alison Paterson, the Centre’s manger explained, “The funding we received from the Foundation ensures that we can really focus on developing the village’s community services for all ages. We aim to make the Centre self-sustaining within the next two to three years.”
