St John’s Living Well on Durham Road, Stockton-on-Tees is celebrating with a one-year grant of £22,300 towards the salary of a new project development worker. The grant has been made by the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales through its Community Priority Programme.
The Centre was established in 2002 to provide a community facility to support the Newtown, Primrose Hill and Ragworth areas. Each week over 300 to 400 people use the Centre including the Citizens Advice Bureau, exercise groups and Stockton Parents Support Group. The new development worker will be responsible for developing successful projects such as Crafting Well, an arts and crafts project working with artists involving local schools and Stockton Parent Support Group; and Growing Well for local artists, children and people with learning difficulties working together to create artwork for the garden and wheelchair accessible planters.
Jenny Hodgson at St John’s Living Well commented, “The funding has come at a great time, we hope that we can appoint someone in the New Year. We’ve really missed having someone who can develop our community involvement projects such as ‘Really Writing’ and keep on top of all the support administration required for the hall bookings.”
Peter Ellis, North East manager for the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales said, “St Johns Living Well is a great venue which is clearly very well used by the local community. We are delighted to help this small but very effective team to grow.”
The Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales supports charities that help disadvantaged people to play a fuller role in the community.
