The South Tyneside Football Trust has recently received a grant of £20,000 from the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales through its Community Programme.
The Trust, based at the Monkton Stadium in Jarrow was established in 2004 and provides a range of sporting activities, particularly football as a way of improving the health of children and young people and work extensively with people with a disability who represent over half of their members. In the last year they supported 50 referees to complete their certificates and over 100 coaches to achieve the FA Level 1 or higher. They also run one of the biggest junior football leagues in the North East as well as junior and adult Disabled Football Leagues.
The grant from the Lloyds TSB Foundation will support the salary of the Trust’s Manager for two years and will enable the development of further support to people with a disability, including those confined to wheelchairs.
Alan Millward, the manager of the Trust said
“The grant from Lloyds TSB Foundation will provide funding to develop our work over the next two years and enable those with a disabilities and the able bodied to experience being part of a team, qualify as referees and coaches and develop a healthy lifestyle.”
