Turning waste into a wealth of opportunities…
Every year thousands of tonnes of furniture and white goods are buried in landfill. But a unique project based in North Dorset aims to put an end to this waste – and benefit many different parts of the local community in the process.
Your Choice Furniture Recycling collects a large variety of unwanted furniture and electrical items – everything from three-piece suites to fridge freezers – from all over North Dorset, Somerset and the Wiltshire borders. These items are then sold at a greatly reduced price to people on low incomes.
…and turning people’s lives around
But it doesn’t stop there. In addition to supporting other charities, Your Choice also offers supported employment to people with disabilities – giving people a real opportunity to turn their lives around:
“Without Your Choice, I do not know what I would be doing now. Six years ago I had a mental breakdown at the age of twenty. For three years I attended many centres, but I needed that extra push, and was asked if I would like to work at Your Choice. I work part-time making sheds, indeed all kinds of wooden buildings and get paid a good hourly rate. Your Choice has turned my life around. They went out of their way to help me.”

The Foundation’s grant enabled the charity to expand its facilities and open an extra day each week.
