Essential services for those who are housebound
What would life be like if you couldn’t jump in your car, or on a bus or train to get where you want to go? And how would you manage if going to the shops or the GP was a real struggle?
Thanks to Tamworth Community Transport Service many people who would have had to deal with those issues every day now have help. The charity provides an invaluable service for people – mainly older and disabled people – who do not have access to their own transport and find it difficult to use public transport. The service prevents them from being isolated at home and helps them to retain their independence.
A range of benefits
The Foundation’s grant enabled TCTS to replace office furniture, purchase an IT-based booking system, and fund a part-time driver to improve the reliability and continuity of the service.
The IT system was a particularly important purchase, as they had been operating with a paper based booking system which was time-consuming and made it difficult to keep track of the bookings. The new software and PCs have helped them to improve the efficiency of their service by freeing up staff time for other tasks.
“Tamworth Community Transport greatly appreciates the money we received. It has helped us a great deal – especially the driver – as we can help the elderly and infirm to get out more, so they are not housebound. And the transport IT package will make life so much easier in the office.”
