The Dark Horse project provides an intensive skills and training programme for ex-prisoners returning to the Derwentside area of County Durham.
Aware of statistics showing that people who leave prison without a job are twice as likely to reoffend, Consett and District YMCA ran a pilot programme which supplied ex-prisoners with a living wage while they completed training to prepare for full-time employment.
None of those involved in the pilot programme went on to re-offend and continuation funding will allow the Dark Horse project to expand its services.
